Each year, IUPAC awards up to five prizes. Each prize consists of an US$1000 cash award and up to US$1000 towards travel expenses to attend the next IUPAC Congress, where the awards will be presented. We make an effort to ensure fair geographic distribution of prizes, in keeping with IUPAC’s status as a global organization. For this round, the awards will be presented at the 2025 IUPAC Congress, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 11-18 July 2025. Each awardee will be invited to present a poster on his/her research and to participate in a plenary award session, and is invited to submit a review article for publication in Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Until 15 February 2024, anyone who completed all requirements for their PhD in calendar year 2023 at an institution in an IUPAC member country/territory may apply for this award by using the submission form on the IUPAC website. Candidates must describe their thesis work in a 6000-character essay, and they must provide the contact details of two or three persons who can provide a support letter for the candidate, based on their familiarity with the candidate’s thesis work. These letters must also be submitted before or on 15 February 2023.
