Welcome to the Platform Chemistry!
Chemistry is a core science. It plays a pivotal role in the natural sciences and provides fundamental knowledge that is applied daily in all aspects of experimental, biological, physical, medical, environmental, materials, pharmaceutical, geological, analytical and social sciences.
In Switzerland and throughout the world, we are faced with enormous challenges at many scientific, technological and social levels. An increasing global population places demands on many different aspects of our planet: energy needs, impact on the environment, food supplies, global healthcare, natural resources. The need for a 'sustainable future' is a phrase that we all know well. Chemistry is central to achieving sustainability for generations to come.
The Platform Chemistry of SCNAT has a undertaking to connect people in Switzerland, and to further an understanding of the role that chemistry plays in our lives. Despite the fact that chemistry critically underpins many aspects of our society, the public's perception of this subject is extremely varied. One of the missions of Platform Chemistry is to raise awareness of chemistry. We also strive to encourage young scientists by promoting science at all educational levels, and providing early-career events for young chemistry academics. We endeavour to develop closer relationships between academia and industry, and between academics and the general public. The annual celebration of 'chemical landmarks' within Switzerland has naturally highlighted the chemical industry in Basel, but has also placed the spotlight on, for example, the birthplace of Ovomaltine in Bern, and the high altitude research station on the Jungfraujoch. This popular activity of the Platform Chemistry continues to focus attention on ever more diverse chemical features of the Swiss landscape.
The Platform Chemistry of SCNAT welcomes you to its events across Switzerland. Do not hesitate to contact us.
